Sports massage in Yuma

Massage targeted to athletes for performance, training and rehabilitation.

Massage for athletic performance

Sports massage is, in our own wording, massage for athletic performance. It is targeted to athletes, and the aim is to improve performance, training and rehabilitation. If you train, whether for a race, a season or your own goals, tell us what you are working toward and the session is built around that.

Before the session, tell your therapist your sport, how often you train, what is coming up on your calendar and anything that has been bothering you. Sports massage sits on the traditional menu, so it books in 25, 50 or 80 minute blocks at the same price as the other styles there.

Recovering fast and preventing injuries

Our sports massage page says the work helps athletes recover fast and prevent injuries. That puts it on the other side of the training week: not the workout itself, but the days around it, when your muscles are asked to do it all again. It makes sense to talk with your therapist about timing around events and heavy training days.

We will not promise you a result, because bodies differ and your therapist works from what they find in front of them. What we can say is that seven of our therapists are Arizona Board licensed, and they will listen to what you do and tell you where the work is going.

Several modalities in a single session

Several modalities and techniques are used in sports massage rather than one routine. In practice that can mean deep tissue work, stretching, and focused attention on the muscles your sport loads most: legs and hips for runners, shoulders for swimmers and throwers, forearms and back for climbers. Your therapist chooses the mix.

If pain is the problem rather than performance, a medical massage evaluation may be the better first step, because it begins with an evaluation and specific goals. If you want longer strokes and less intensity, the traditional massage page describes Swedish and deep tissue. Your therapist can point you to the right one.
